MTV Night in Murcia, Summer 2009
THE Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, announced that Cartagena will host an MTV Murcia Night next summer in 2009.
The event, which is a hugely popular date in the MTV calendar, will be broadcast in Italy, France, Greece, Germany, the UK, Holland and the Scandinavian countries.
Mr Cruz described the forthcoming event as “the biggest tourism promotion campaign the region has ever had”.
The target date for this concert is late July or early August and it will be held in the park of the University of Cartagena. Entry will be free for some 35,000 spectators and there is a potential television audience of 90 million people.
Possible acts lined up for the concert include Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Paulina Rubio, Amaral and British bands like Keane and The Cure.
There will also be a programme of music to be provided by DJ-presenters. The complete line up, however, will not be finalised until some three or four months before the event.
Mr Cruz said that Cartagena was chosen for its proximity to the Mar Menor and the tourist area of La Manga. The concert will last for more than five hours and will also be broadcast live across Spain.
